Mobility opportunities in Europe. Go abroad… as a trainee, a volunteer, an unpaid worker… to study or to work
« Youth on the Move » is a European Union programme set up to promote initiatives against unemployment among young people and foster education, training and employability.
Mobility projects can be short-term or longer term, part of an institutional framework or stem from a private initiative. There are no strict rules – it is up to everybody to choose the right mobility option for themselves according to their motivation and situation.
There are plenty of good reasons to go abroad, such as learning a language, discovering another culture, meeting new faces, broadening your horizons, seeing other countries, discovering other people, gaining experience, acquiring new work methods, fleshing out your CV, adding bonus points for accessing the job market etc. In short, there are only plus points.
But maybe you don’t dare to take it on. You might be afraid that you are not going to manage, that you don’t speak the language of the country sufficiently well, and that it’s hard to turn up alone in a country you don’t know. You’re not sure how to go about it, what formalities you have to undertake, how to find an internship or where you can stay when you arrive or how to look after yourself if a problem arises.
European programmes, websites and organisations are there to help you, make things easier for you and guide you along the way. Grants are awarded to help you pay for additional expenses.
With all that in mind, it would be a real shame not to get up and go!
