Initial vocational education and training in Europe

Why describe the vocational training paths in Europe?

Because they are highly diversified and strongly linked to the specific history and organisation of each country, comparisons between the European systems are few and far between and diplomas and national certification are difficult to explain and export.

To make sure you opt for the right mobility programme, you need to know how other training systems work and where you stand in your own country. You can then give specific details to your contacts abroad by referring to their national system.

This section gives a summary of the various national pathways with the denominators common to all the systems: theoretical age, the duration of compulsory schooling, training and education establishments and the names of the diplomas. The names are given in the national language. This should help everyone place their own particular pathway in relation to another vocational system.

You will find here the educational systems of the 28 European countries.
